AIMA Blood Donation Drive

For the past four years, AIMA, in collaboration with Australian Red Cross LifeBlood, has been organising a nationwide blood donation drive at mosques across Australia. What began as a single event at one mosque in 2019 has now expanded to over many mosques, spanning across all states and territories, and reaching both regional centres and major cities.

The urgent need for blood donations, especially from diverse ethnic groups, is vital to meet the needs of Australia’s multicultural patients.

Recognising this, AIMA initiated the national blood drive, encouraging mosque congregants from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds to participate.

Charity is the 3rd pillar of Islam.

The drive not only promotes the importance of blood donation but also aims to inspire regular donors.

This year, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is including new accommodations, such as private spaces and special sleeves for women donors, to ensure comfort and inclusivity for all donors.

Comfort and Inclusion:

  • Lifeblood Donor Centres can assist by having a women’s area allocated
  • In centre privacy screens available, if not being used for an adverse event;
  • Donor Centres have modesty sleeves – a bandage material that slides up the arm like a sleeve with an area cut out for access to the veins for the phlebotomy site.
  • Women donors are asked to bring a towel  if they require to cover their legs.
