The Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) WA hosted its Medical Heroes Quiz Night in Perth on Wednesday 20 August 2025, an energetic evening of trivia, games, and networking that brought together nearly 50 healthcare students for a night filled with laughter, competition, and meaningful connection.
The event was co-presented and MC’d by Zahin Khan, Tawqeer Saiyed, Munaaf Khan, and Dabeer Shikrani, who kept the atmosphere lively and engaging from start to finish. A special acknowledgment goes to Amnesty UWA, whose support in organising, marketing, and setting up the event ensured everything ran seamlessly.
The night kicked off with a warm welcome from Zahin Khan, who introduced AIMA WA and shared its vision of building strong professional and spiritual bonds among Muslim healthcare students and professionals. From there, the evening transitioned straight into the quiz segments — designed to balance knowledge, creativity, and light-hearted fun.
The games begin
The competition opened with “Dr Google Says”, where teams guessed the most popular Google autofill suggestions to quirky prompts — sparking both laughter and debate. This was followed by a brain-teasing round of riddles, testing teams’ problem-solving skills under pressure.
Next came “Picture Perfect”, a crowd favourite, where players had to identify everyday objects from extreme close-up images. The final stage of the night was a fast-paced Mentimeter quiz, filled with general knowledge questions that had everyone on their toes until the very last second.
With a healthy balance of wit, teamwork, and quick reflexes, the games not only entertained but also gave students a chance to bond, collaborate, and enjoy themselves outside the classroom.
Dinner was served mid-evening, featuring fresh pizzas and Salaam Cola drinks — keeping everyone fuelled for the competition and giving attendees a chance to mingle casually.
The night wasn’t only about fun — it also carried a spirit of service and awareness. Through the collaboration with Amnesty UWA, part of the proceeds contributed to supporting efforts like the Samir Foundation, which works to assist doctors and the medical sector in Gaza in rebuilding their capacity.
A platform for students to connect
More than just a quiz night, the aim of the event was to provide a safe, welcoming platform where healthcare students could meet new people, grow friendships, and strengthen networks that will support them throughout their professional journeys.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, praising the smooth organisation, relaxed atmosphere, and the blend of fun with purpose. The night proved once again that AIMA WA is not only a professional body but also a vibrant community where faith, friendship, and the spirit of service come together.
