AIMA NSW hosted an Eid Picnic on Sunday 15 June 2025, at the picturesque Parramatta Park. With over 150 healthcare professionals and their families, the atmosphere was lively and full of joy during a beautiful day, celebrating Eid al-Adha under stunning sunny skies.

The Australian Islamic Medical Association’s New South Wales Chapter (AIMA NSW) hosted an Eid Picnic on Sunday 15 June 2025, at the picturesque Parramatta Park. With over 150 healthcare professionals and their families, the atmosphere was lively and full of joy during a beautiful day, celebrating Eid al-Adha under stunning sunny skies.

Dr Elhassan Elabbas, President of AIMA NSW, opened the event by welcoming guests and reaffirming AIMA’s mission to inspire and unite Muslim healthcare professionals across Australia to serve the community.

A key highlight was the presentation of the AIMA Award for Distinguished Service to three esteemed senior doctors: Dr Parwin Shahnaz Faiz, Dr Ishrat Ali, and Dr Mohammed Obeidullah; in recognition of over 50 years of exceptional service.

  • Dr Parwin Faiz has served as a GP in south-west Sydney for decades, offering pro-bono care and playing a crucial role in refugee health support.
  • Dr Ishrat Ali is a consultant psychiatrist and author whose work in mental health advocacy has gained international recognition.
  • Dr Mohammed Obeidullah is known for his resilience and long-standing service, from Tasmania to Sydney, including medical care provided during Cyclone Tracy.

These awards were originally to be presented at the AIMA National Conference Gala Dinner in Melbourne in April 2025. However, due to personal circumstances, the recipients were unable to attend. Honouring them locally at the Eid Picnic allowed their families and community members in Sydney to join in celebrating their legacy.

The picnic also served as a valuable opportunity to connect with Muslim healthcare professionals new to AIMA. Attendees were encouraged to join the growing national network by visiting aima.org.au/become-member. Conversations throughout the day highlighted AIMA’s vision of uniting professionals across all disciplines and generations.

Children were treated to face painting, a playground, and plenty of space to play, while adults enjoyed catching up over a delicious spread of food, sweets, desserts, and tea. A delicious AIMA NSW Eid Picnic cake added a festive flair and congregational prayers were held for Dhuhr.

A special thank you to the AIMA NSW female leadership team for their outstanding work in planning and executing the event. From venue setup and catering to coordinating children’s activities, their efforts ensured everything ran seamlessly. Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive.

AIMA NSW students wing is also holding an Eid dinner event on Saturday 5 July 2025 at Berala Community Centre. Healthcare students are encouraged to register by visiting https://tinyurl.com/45h237ts.
